Towers of the Virgin        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The jagged walls of the Towers of the Virgin and the West Temple are classic Zion scenery, beloved of generations of nature photographers.   These are my contributions, mostly taken early in the morning, before or shortly after dawn; mostly in fall but two images were made in winter.   To help even out the exposure on sky and land, I used a graduated neutral-density filter.  The images are in a rough temporal sequence, starting with the predawn image at upper left.   One picture (near the bottom) was taken with a long lens from far to the east, at sunset; a bit of mist was rising out of one intervening canyon.  The upper right photo shows a rather indistinct mule deer buck that walked across the meadow just at dawn.
