Cottonwood leaves        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Cottonwoods are one of my favorite trees.   They provide shelter and shade along streams in hot southwestern deserts, and in Autumn their leaves turn a beautiful gold.  These were photographed just below Nevada Falls, along the Mist Trail above Yosemite Valley.
