The 'blue' color morph of the snow goose is fairly common in eastern North America but very scarce in the west. They have variable amounts of dark coloration, as can be seen in these images. The flying geese were photographed as they came to land in cornfields near the 'Farm Deck' at the Bosque del Apache refuge in central New Mexico (the image at upper right was taken late in the afternoon, lending a warm tone to the bird). The pictures below are of blue geese feeding in open fields or resting on a pond; the bottom left picture shows a 'regular' snow goose in company with a 'blue' goose. |
