Red-headed barbet        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Barbets are colorful birds related to woodpeckers.   They are found in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  I managed to get just a few shots of this male red-headed barbet before it flew off; this is a fairly common species like its relative the versicolored barbet.   I took the photos in mountain forest in the Western Andes, near Cali, Colombia.
